ABSTRACT

Estudo exploratório-descritivo com os objetivos de descrever o perfil sócio-demográfico do familiar cuidador do portador de hipertensão arterial, avaliar o conhecimento acerca da doença e as condutas terapêuticas, e identificar os cuidados prestados. Foi desenvolvido na Liga de Hipertensão Arterial do Hospitalde Messejana, em Fortaleza-CE, com 400 familiares de usuários hipertensos. Os dados foram coletados atravésde um roteiro estruturado. Os resultados foram apresentados em tabelas e quadros, e analisados sob a luz deliteratura pertinente. Os familiares cuidadores tinham idade entre 20 e 79 anos, sendo 80,2% do grupo formadopor mulheres, mais de 50% de filhos ou filhas e 15,3% situavam-se entre 60 e 79 anos de idade. Conclui-se queas políticas públicas de saúde devem ser pensadas tanto como forma de favorecer o acesso e a permanênciado portador de hipertensão no tratamento, quanto fornecer suportes necessários para a família participarefetivamente do cuidar com o seu doente


The objective of this exploratory-descriptive study is to describe the social and demographic profileof the care-giving family of people with arterial hypertension, in order to evaluate current knowledge about theillness and therapeutical procedures, as well as to identify the care given. It was developed in the League of ArterialHypertension of the Messejana Hospital in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil, with 400 relatives hypertensive patients. Thedata was collected through a structured guidebook. The results were presented in tables and charts, and analyzedbased upon appropriate literature. The average care-giving family was between 20 and 79 years old, with 80.2% of the group composed of women. Over 50% were sons or daughters, and 15.3% situated between 60 and 79 years of age. We conclude that the public health care policies must be thought of as much to favor access and the permanence of the person with arterial hypertension in treatment, as to provide necessary support for thefamily who participates effectively in the care of its family member with arterial hypertentsion
